Canadian telecom is hell!

I’ve been bitching about Canadian telecom for quite some time.  We get crappy expensive hardware (crippled hardware so they can make even more money off of us), terrible plans (whether for voice, data, text, or whatever), plan add-ons are stupidly expensive, and we all get charged a monthly “system access fee” (bullshit the likes of which I don’t remember ever seeing before).

Now, Bell and Telus have decided that we should be charged for incoming text messages that we can’t even refuse!  I have an unlimited incoming calls plan, but if I didn’t, at least I’d have the option of ignoring a call if I knew I had used up too many minutes that month.  There’s no such convenience with texting!  Who’s to stop the companies themselves from sending out text messages to their customers (“daily company newsletter updates so you can keep up with the latest developments for Telus… latest news, we just made another 15 cents from you”)?  At least the NDP (<3) has started a petition (below) to put an end to this crap, but of course, we all know how much good that’s going to do.

Stop the text message cash-grab
